Learn from Tiny Houses!
by kathyregini |
This new Tiny House craze is insane! People are trading in their 3300+ square foot homes for places that average 150-400 square feet! Its not for everyone for sure, but I think Americans are reacting to the oversized mortgages that go with big homes. A way to simplify, work less and enjoy life more! Well…I don’t think I could manage it. Unless I was single maybe. But what is important here, is that we can all learn from Tiny House living…what we can still incorporate.
- Have multifunctional rooms and furniture that do double duty
- Find creative storage solutions-such as unused vertical space
- Re-use, repurpose and rethink what you already have-don’t just keep buying more stuff
- Enjoy the beauty of minimal living, less to items to clean, worry about and move. Take time to assess what is really essential.
- You have to lose the clutter!

Living in a Home that Flows
by kathyregini |If you want a house that looks”designed”, be clear with style of your home from the minute you walk in the front door. Modern, eclectic, transitional…what ever you happen to love. But the theme should run through out. Beyond furniture, & rug choices, it can be found even in the little things, like having consistent moulding, doors and windows styles, for example. Also stay consistent with finishes on fixtures and hardware. Have a 3 or 4 color paint palette and just repeat it all over the home. If you decide on building an addition, make sure it looks like it belongs with the rest of the house…do not introduce a new style of architecture. Each room should look like it belongs to the same cohesive house, not be a series of disjointed rooms. Do this and your home will look well designed rather than thrown together. For living or selling.

Feng Shui Concepts for a Better Home
by kathyregini |Although I’m no expert on all things Feng Shui, I must admit that I agree with much of it. For one, I think it is so important to be mindful of how your home influences your well being. I also really believe in good air quality and an abundance of natural light…open those windows! And of course anyone that knows me knows how I feel about clutter. I believe in getting rid of anything that is not useful, beautifies, or gives you joy. But something that I don’t think people give enough energy to, is incorporating all 5 Feng Shui elements into a home. Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal & Water. If this interests you, there is a great book called, Feng Shui Your Life, by Jayme Barett.
